The Basics

What forestry mulching is, what it costs, and what we can do for your property.

🌳 What is forestry mulching, and how is it different from a bulldozer, hauling, or burning?

Forestry mulching uses one machine with a rotating drum to grind brush, saplings, and small trees right where they stand, turning them into mulch on the spot. A bulldozer pushes and uproots everything, tearing up the soil and leaving piles to haul off or burn. We don't do any of that. There's no hauling, no burning, and no piles left behind — the mulch stays on your land as ground cover. It's a cleaner, lower-impact way to take back overgrown ground. See what we clear.

💵 How much does it cost?

Pricing is simple. A half day is $860 for up to 4 hours of mulching, and a full day is $1,720 for up to 8 hours. Larger jobs are booked in half-day steps. A free on-site estimate confirms whether your job is a half day or a full day, so there are no surprises. A 50% deposit books the job and the balance is due on completion, the same day. We accept card, Zelle, Venmo, or cash.

📐 How much area can you clear in a day?

It depends on how dense the vegetation is and how the terrain sits. Light brush goes quickly; thick, woody overgrowth on uneven ground takes longer. Because every property is different, we don't quote it by the acre. Your free on-site estimate is where we walk the area and confirm whether it's a half-day or full-day job.

🌲 What size material can you mulch?

Our 48-inch mulcher handles brush, saplings, small trees, and general overgrowth. We don't take down large-diameter trees, and we don't do fence or structure removal or any grading or soil work. If you're not sure your job fits, that's exactly what the free estimate is for.

Before & During the Job

A few simple things on your end keep the work smooth and the cost down.

📋 Do I need a permit?

Permits and approvals are the property owner's responsibility. Requirements vary by city and HOA, so we recommend confirming with your local office or board before we start. We focus on the clearing and mulching — you handle the approvals, which keeps your project simple and on the right side of local rules.

⚠️ What about utilities — do I need to call 811?

Yes. Before we mulch, you call 811 to have public utilities located, and you mark your own sprinkler lines and low-voltage wiring, since you know where they are on your property. That keeps your land safe and keeps billable hours off your invoice. It's one of the simple ways we help keep your cost down.

🌿 What happens to the mulch?

It stays on your land. The ground-up material is spread as natural ground cover that helps hold moisture, slow weeds, and enrich the soil as it breaks down. There's no hauling it off and no piles left behind — the mulch works for your property instead of leaving with us.

✅ Will it damage my yard?

Our machine is a 48-inch mini skid-steer mulcher — narrow and low-disturbance by design. It fits through standard gates and into gardens and tight rural spots that big machines can't reach, and its small footprint means low ground disturbance. You're left with a clean, walkable finish rather than torn-up ground.

Projects, Area & Booking

Common projects, where we work, and how to get on the schedule.

🌷 Can you restart an overgrown garden bed?

Yes. A tired or overgrown bed is a great fit for mulching. We grind the old growth down for a fresh start, and the shredded plant matter and nutrients go right back into your soil — no hauling, no burning, no starting from scratch. You're left with rich ground that's ready to replant. More on garden restarts.

🪵 Can you mulch old brush and wood piles?

Yes. Old brush and wood piles are exactly the kind of cleanup we handle. We mulch them down on-site and the chips can be repurposed as ground cover around your home or garden — no burning and nothing to haul away.

🗺️ What areas do you serve?

We serve St. Charles County, Missouri, including St. Charles, O'Fallon, St. Peters, Wentzville, Lake St. Louis, Cottleville, and Weldon Spring. If you're in or near the county and not sure whether we reach you, just ask.

🗓️ What's the best time of year for mulching?

Forestry mulching can be done year-round. Many landowners like the cooler months when growth has died back and the ground is firmer, but any season works. Whenever the overgrowth is ready, we are.

🛡️ Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Blue Skies Clearing is locally owned, licensed, and insured, and every estimate is free. You'll deal directly with the owner-operator from the first call to the finished job.
