Straight answers to the questions St. Charles County landowners ask most — pricing, what we clear, permits, and how to book. Still wondering about something? Just ask us.
What forestry mulching is, what it costs, and what we can do for your property.
Forestry mulching uses one machine with a rotating drum to grind brush, saplings, and small trees right where they stand, turning them into mulch on the spot. A bulldozer pushes and uproots everything, tearing up the soil and leaving piles to haul off or burn. We don't do any of that. There's no hauling, no burning, and no piles left behind — the mulch stays on your land as ground cover. It's a cleaner, lower-impact way to take back overgrown ground. See what we clear.
Pricing is simple. A half day is $860 and a full day is $1,720. Larger jobs book by the day and half day. A free on-site estimate confirms whether your job is a half day or a full day, so there are no surprises. A 50% deposit books the job and the balance is due on completion, the same day. We accept card, Zelle, Venmo, or cash.
It depends on how dense the vegetation is and how the terrain sits. Light brush goes quickly; thick, woody overgrowth on uneven ground takes longer. Because every property is different, we don't quote it by the acre. Your free on-site estimate is where we walk the area and confirm whether it's a half-day or full-day job.
Brush, saplings, and trees up to 6″ diameter. We don't take down large-diameter trees, and we don't do fence or structure removal or any grading or soil work. If you're not sure your job fits, that's exactly what the free estimate is for.
A few simple things on your end keep the work smooth and the cost down.
No — no city or state permits are required, because forestry mulching disturbs no soil. The only permission you may need is from your own HOA or governing body, and getting that OK is the property owner's part. Simple, fast, no red tape.
Yes — stump removal runs $8.75 per inch of stump diameter. We use a Dipperfox stump pulverizer — a drill, not a grinder — so it's low noise with no flying material, and it removes the stump 8–12 inches below grade on the same compact setup as our mulcher. The ground-up material is packed in place or left where it lies, and you (or a landscaper we can refer) fill in with dirt.
Yes — you make the call, and that's good news: 811 is completely free for homeowners, and it's the best way to get familiar with what actually runs under your land. You also mark your own sprinkler lines and low-voltage wiring, since you know where they are. Blue Skies doesn't locate utilities — skipping that billable service is one of the ways we keep your price down.
It stays on your land. The ground-up material is spread as natural ground cover that helps hold moisture, slow weeds, and enrich the soil as it breaks down. There's no hauling it off and no piles left behind — the mulch works for your property instead of leaving with us.
Our machine is a 48-inch mulcher — narrow and low-disturbance by design. It fits through standard gates and into gardens and tight rural spots that big machines can't reach, and its small footprint means low ground disturbance. You're left with a clean, walkable finish rather than torn-up ground.
Common projects, where we work, and how to get on the schedule.
Yes. A tired or overgrown bed is a great fit for mulching. We grind the old growth down for a fresh start, and the shredded plant matter and nutrients go right back into your soil — no hauling, no burning, no starting from scratch. You're left with rich ground that's ready to replant. More on garden restarts.
Yes. Old brush and wood piles are exactly the kind of cleanup we handle. We mulch them down on-site and the chips can be repurposed as ground cover around your home or garden — no burning and nothing to haul away.
We serve St. Charles, Lincoln, Warren, and Franklin counties in Missouri — including St. Charles, O'Fallon, St. Peters, Wentzville, Lake St. Louis, Cottleville, Weldon Spring, Troy, Moscow Mills, Warrenton, Wright City, New Melle, and Defiance — and the surrounding rural communities within about 1–2 hours of St. Charles. Not sure whether we reach you? Just ask.
Yes — fence line clearing is one of our core services. We clear brush, saplings, and overgrowth off existing or planned fence lines so fencing crews can work, or so your existing fence stops disappearing into the brush. Our 48″ mulcher fits through standard gates.
Winter — vegetation is dormant and the ground is firm. That said, plenty of clients schedule summer clearings to see the change immediately. We work year-round.
Yes. Blue Skies Clearing is licensed and fully insured, and a certificate of insurance is available upon request. Every estimate is free, and the same veteran-operated small local team handles your job from the first call to the finished work.
